The rebuild checklist
This is the original element of this page: a checklist for turning your most-used Doodly video back into a script-first brief. Work top to bottom and it takes about half an hour.
- Export the finished MP4 of every video you still use, at the highest quality Doodly offers, before your licence lapses.
- Export or re-save the voiceover audio and any music you own the rights to.
- Copy the on-screen text and narration from each scene into one plain document, in running order. That document is now your script.
- Read the script aloud and time it. Roughly 150 words is a minute. Trim to 30, 60 or 120 seconds, because length is a hard constraint on what the film can cover.
- Delete the stage directions. Lines like 'hand draws arrow to box' described what you built by hand; the sketch direction is handled for you now.
- Write one sentence at the top saying who it is for and what you want them to do. This single line does more for the finished video than any scene choice you ever made.
- Collect your logo as a clean PNG or SVG, and note the company names mentioned in the script.
- Pick your four settings: portrait, landscape or square; one of four narration voices; 30, 60 or 120 seconds; logo on or off.
- Paste the script, generate, and watch it. Edit the wording and remake if it is not right — the cost of a remake is shown before you confirm.
- Archive your Doodly exports somewhere safe. You may never need them, but cancelling is easier when they are backed up.
A typical rebuild: a 90-second Doodly onboarding video with eleven hand-built scenes became a 220-word script, trimmed to 180 words for a 120-second film. Total editing time: twenty minutes, most of it deleting stage directions.
